A Poem For The Dear Ole Society

Dear ole society
Look what you did to us
You've taken something so basic
And turned it into a fuss
All we asked was to be treated right
Now tell me if that's wrong
Don't expect us to not fight
We'll be here even if battle is long

Your history I have read
It shows woman as a goddess
Yet somehow today you tell me
That the woman in your life is a weakness
I was told stories of many a lady
Who stood up for themselves
I wondered why it's extraordinary
That humans wrote their destiny themselves

Dear ole society
Let us love whoever we do
You don't get a say in it
And you shouldn't try too
We watched while you made us hide
Our true feelings and identity
Now we showcase our Pride
And you watch from the sidelines quietly

Your religion I have studied
Your books can't answer me too
When I question your right and authority
Over why I fall in love and with who
You told me hide my real self
It won't happen anymore
You put my identity on the bottom shelf
Now it's never going back there for sure

Dear ole society
You treated my sickness as a joke
You watched as it consumed me
And then you just spoke
Spoke over my corpse and coffin
About how happy I always was
How I was such a great person
While you thought only about my flaws

Your elders I spoke to
They told me my sickness didn't exist
They said it's all in my head
That's one more to the list
I blamed myself for the way I was
The way I thought and done
Little did I know it wasn't all me
And my faults were close to none

Dear ole society
You destroyed our very home
You said and did as you pleased
And now this planet is worn
Worn and tired from your exploitation
And angry at your thoughtlessness
You destroyed every creation
And now all that's there is hopelessness

Your ancestors I was told
Dreamt of a better tomorrow
Of a more evolved planet
And not a trace of sorrow
Instead look at our situation
We look for shelter in another universe
Because we destroyed our own inhabitation
And now we hunt for the others

Dear ole society
You did all that you wanted
Now pass on the dead torch
We might be able to re-ignite it
We'll light the fire you extinguished
And put out the ones you started
Our children will have what we wished
And by them we will be outsmarted

We'll pick up the pieces you dropped
Fix the things you broke
We'll restart all that stopped
And undo all that you done and spoke
So we can all begin again
And we'll be better and more strong
We won't let your toils go in vain
But only right all that you did wrong.
